Our favorite part of running a business is the opportunity it has given us to give back. That’s why we established our 5% Forward program connecting you with domestic charities.

We donate 5% of profits from Cuppow and BNTO in colors to four specific charity partners who work hard to provide resources to those they serve. Whether it’s helping kids thrive at school, or planting dune grass - these domestic charities are highly rated for effectiveness, transparency, and accountability.

We crunched the numbers and chatted with the charities to quantify exactly what resources our donated dollars bought.

Your purchases have helped us raise some serious coin for these very worthwhile domestic charities and we appreciate every ounce of support!

Darcey from the Firefly Adventure Team (which we’re stoked to be sponsoring again in 2015) is totally a smoothie pro. Her recipes always include simple ingredients that, when combined, simply hit the spot.

This one serves her as a great post-trainer protein blast but is good for anyone trying to fuel cleanly after any workout.

Ingredients

1 Banana

4 Ice Cubes

2 Tbsp. PB - Preferably Teddie’s

3-4 Frozen Strawberries

1/4 Cup Blackberries (add a few extra for a that beautiful purple color)

1 Scoop of your favorite protein powder - we love Vega Viva Vanilla

1 1/2 Cup Almond Milk

Directions:

Combine ingredients, blend, enjoy!

If you’re looking for a sunny recipe to temporarily transport you out of winter check out the Firefly Glow recipe featuring goji berries, cherry juice, and more on the Firefly Adventure Team blog:

We are exploring how people think about their daily environmental footprint in a new interview series called: Low Impact Life

For our first installment, we tapped into the brain of local hero Abe of Fancy Lad Skate Co. We wanted to have a chat about how habits add up - what we got was so much more:

1. What’s something you always carry on your person?

A paper bag filled with peels and cores of fruit so i can compost it but I usually throw it in a flower arrangement of some corporate building downtown so the flowers can get the nutrition.

2. What’s something you hate throwing away?

Anything really. That’s why my room is filled with random tchotchkes. I really throw away almost nothing. The only thing I throw away is baggy socks.

3. Whats your biggest concern about our environment?

The ecological collapse where we all get burned by the sun. Ice caps melting. Running out of food. All of these things I think about everyday.

4. What’s your worst environmental bad habit, something you’d like to work harder on?

I don’t know if this counts but I’m obsessed with showering. I shower like twice a day. I think it goes back into the water cycle, I hope it does. Honestly I also feel guilty about charging so many things on a daily basis, continuing the burning of coal and all. Maybe also spray paint.

Fancy Lad just dropped their newest masterpiece Fancy Lad 3 and it’s one for the ages. Be sure to check out their skate videos for people who don’t like skate videos and follow ‘em on Instagram: @fancyladskateco

Rumi Spice is a company comprised of a team of U.S. Veterans... Posted on 20 Jan 11:22

Rumi Spice is a company comprised of a team of U.S. Veterans sourcing saffron, the world’s most coveted spice, from one of the most neglected farming communities in the world: Afghanistan.

Selling saffron provides an alternative to growing poppy and opium farming, which is one of the primary sources of income for the Taliban. Without investment in agriculture, Afghan farmers have few prospects making them susceptible to the Taliban.

By providing Afghan farmers with a direct market to produce and sell saffron globally - Rumi Spice enables development and investment to create a foundation for peace and prosperity.

Based out of the Harvard iLab, only a couple of miles away from our HQ at Fringe Union, we invited the Rumi Spice team to visit Fringe and loved learning more about their mission. It was inspiring to learn about their dedication to improving the environments where they served - through sustainable business practices.

We absolutely love this recipe from Serious Eats by J. Kenji López-Alt.

These “Just-Add-Hot-Water Instant Noodles” are super simple, cheap, and delicious. It includes fresh chinese-style noodles (or dry rice noodles), kimchi, shitake mushrooms, bouillon, and beef jerky! Safely store scallions in a BNTO to be added after boiling water - and enjoy!
